I got a dremel and have been using it on local stones, in this case I carved a raven into a piece of serpentine that I found in the river.

Bee banner

Lately I've been working on two tone images of animal totems that are going to be made into t shirts and bandannas. 

Here is the bee. I made the background design around the image of the hexagonal honey comb, the flower of life, and I put sunflower petals around the outside, reminding us of the honey bee's food as well as the sun itself.

Dragonfly banner

I enjoy connecting to the animal spirits and so I have made a dragonfly flag to honor that great animal spirit. Dragonflys are insects, born of water, that dance around bodies of water catching whatever insects that they can feed on. Because of this connection to water, which is representative of our emotions, are said to connect us to our deep emotions and subconscious. They also are harbingers of change, as they have gone through big changes from pupa to adult dragonfly.

Here is a prototype that I drew with marker on cloth. I used two colors, black for the main part and a light blue for the background all on a light blue background.

Pi stone Jewelry

I enjoy crystals and making necklaces from crystals so that I can wear them. Crystals are an amazing manifestation of minerals on the Earth. They are pure and seems to hold certain energies. I enjoy making necklaces from them so that I can wear their magic. Here are some of my necklaces. These were made with round pi stones.

This is my first pi stone and one of my favorite necklaces. It's a prehnite pi stone. It is said that prehnite activates the heart chakra and the throat chakra.

Howlin Wolf

Howlin' Wolf done with a brush in ink on paper. I'm really enjoying the freedom and looseness of the dry brush and love to draw black musicians with their dark complexions. I may do a series of Jazz and Blues greats.

Colusa County Fair logo contest submission

I saw an add in a local newspaper, the Territorial Dispatch, for a logo contest for the 2013 Colusa Fair.

Fun with the Avengers!

The Avengers have been my favorite comic ever since I first saw them way back in 1980. It was one of my first comics and is still today one of my favorites.
Because of this I like to have fun reimagining  The World's Mightiest Heroes in different roles. Here are a few of those reimaginings.

Little Bumblo! the comic strip

Last post I shared with you a painting I did of my 22 year old daughter. I wrote that when she was young I use to draw her. So I dug out an old comic strips I did of her to share with you.

It was almost 20 years ago when she was three. I wanted to work on a comic strip and decided that the fun adventures of my daughter would not only make a pretty good comic strip, but would also serve as a great way to save those precious moments of Stasha for me and Shelly, my ex-wife, and for Stash when she got older.

I called it Little Bumblo for reasons that you will see in a minute.

For Christmas I made a portrait of my daughter, Anastasia and her fiance David.

Stashi's face I knew pretty well because I use to draw her when she was young but David's features were new to me and I had to learn to draw his face.

I did some preliminary sketches to get a feel for their faces and to decide what I wanted.

Though I use to draw Stashi I had to become familiar with it as it is now, as a woman's face. Her beautiful big black eyes are the same but her chin has grown and her face has elongated. 

I want to show her relaxed butr with a slight Mona Lisa smile. I'm really happy with this sketch and wish the rest of them came out as good but as an artist I've learned to make my best effort and except what I get.

I'm not familiar with David's face at all so I need to study his features. I really love his big smile in the picture above where he proposes to Stashi so I try to capture that. It proves harder than I thought and the first sketch looks more like a caricature than a portrait. I wanted to capture his smiling eyes and excited smile but instead got a clownish caricature. Sorry David and Stash. This picture is not at all a comment on your good looks but just a terribly distorted drawing and testament to my lack of ability. But again, I work with what I get.

I'm finally starting my blog!

After working on comics for a few years now, I finally decided to start my blog.

One reason I haven't' started it till now is that I've been working on writing comics. lets face it, notes and scripts aren't terribly interesting to read. The most entertaining thing I could do is to put my inspirations on here, movies, art and ideas that get my creative juices going, though if I did that it'd kind of be a jumbled mess like my mind is. And besides I already do this on Facebook.

But now I have a reason for starting this blog. In March someone asked to publish a comic idea I had. It's a comic I call the Minks.

 This is the first drawing I ever did of the Minks in 2008.
